Kaji Kalu Pandey was a heroic general under King Prithvi Narayan Shah, who was killed in a historic battle with Kirtipur. The park was also his cremation ground, as per his wish, which offers the view of the valley as well as Gorkha and Nuwakot Durbar (On Clear Weather).

On September 05, 1999 while approaching to Tribhuvan International Airport, the Necon Air aircraft struck a telecommunication tower with its left wing and crashed onto slopes of a wooded area, 6 miles southwest of the airport killing all 10 passengers and 5 crew on board.
