The forgotten taste…

I was introduced to ‘Katahar’ from my childhood. I fell in love with that immediately. In a curry, the ‘Katahar’ were like little chunks of meat, I’d pick them all out and set them aside on my plate to eat after I’d finish eating everything else on my plate. It was like having a winning prize.

Later on, I was introduced with ripe Katahar (previously the only way I had eaten Katahar was as a vegetable (Curry)). At my school days I used to have summer holiday form mid Aashad till a month, which was the best period Katahar to ripe. I remember every moments in the surrounding of the Katahar tree waiting for the beautiful smell of ripe Katahar which is like that of pineapple and banana. But at that time I had to call other to get it from tall and difficult trees. It’s been almost 7-8 years I am out of those fun. No taste of ripe Katahar, almost forgotten the taste…

Katahar seeds are high in protein and low in fat. The outer skin is spiny, and when green, the flesh is shredded and cooked as a vegetable. The seeds of a ripe Katahar can be boiled or roasted and eaten as a snack or as the protein in a vegetarian dish.

Today I came back from office at around 19:00, I kept my bags and went to the kitchen. As I enter the room I got the smell but I was able to find what was that. I came back to the room without asking about it. After a while mom called me to have Katahar, then only I remembered the smell… that was of the ripe Katahar. I enjoyed it after almost 7-8 years. It taste nice.

Hope that will not do any harm… and my body will adjust with it… 🙂
