The 2,556th Buddha Jayanti is being celebrated today to commemorate the birthday, enlightenment and passing away of Gautam Buddha, the founder of Buddhism. Buddha was born, enlightened, and died on the full moon day in the month of Baishakh in Lumbini of Nepal 2,556 years ago.
