  • I asked…

    I asked for strength
    and
God gave me difficulties to make me strong…

    I asked for wisdom
    and
God gave me problems to solve…

    I asked for prosperity
    and
God gave me brawn and brains to work…

    I asked for courage
    and
God gave me dangers to overcome…

    I asked for patience
    and
God placed me in situations where I was forced to wait…

    I asked for love
    and
God gave me troubled people to help…

    I asked for favors
    and
    God gave me opportunities

I asked for everything so I could enjoy life…
Instead, He gave me life so I could enjoy everything…
    I received nothing I wanted, I received everything I needed…

  • Peace of mind #inspiration #story

Once Buddha was walking from one town to another town with a few of his followers. This was in the initial days. While they were travelling, they happened to pass a lake. They stopped there and Buddha told one of his disciples, “I am thirsty. Do get me some water from that lake there.”

The disciple walked up to the lake. When he reached it, he noticed that some people were washing clothes in the water and, right at that moment, a bullock cart started crossing through the lake. As a result, the water became very muddy, very turbid. The disciple thought, “How can I give this muddy water to Buddha to drink!” So he came back and told Buddha, “The water in there is very muddy. I don’t think it is fit to drink.”

After about half an hour, again Buddha asked the same disciple to go back to the lake and get him some water to drink. The disciple obediently went back to the lake. This time he found that the lake had absolutely clear water in it. The mud had settled down and the water above it looked fit to be had. So he collected some water in a pot and brought it to Buddha.

Buddha looked at the water, and then he looked up at the disciple and said, “See what you did to make the water clean. You let it be … and the mud settled down on its own – and you got clear water… Your mind is also like that. When it is disturbed, just let it be. Give it a little time. It will settle down on its own. You don’t have to put in any effort to calm it down. It will happen. It is effortless.”

What did Buddha emphasize here? He said, “It is effortless.” Having ‘peace of mind’ is not a strenuous job; it is an effortless process. When there is peace inside you, that peace permeates to the outside. It spreads around you and in the environment, such that people around start feeling that peace and grace.

  • Happy 2556th Buddha Jayanti

The 2,556th Buddha Jayanti is being celebrated today to commemorate the birthday, enlightenment and passing away of Gautam Buddha, the founder of Buddhism. Buddha was born, enlightened, and died on the full moon day in the month of Baishakh in Lumbini of Nepal 2,556 years ago.

    Some Sayings of Lord Buddha

#1 “Do not dwell in the past, do not dream of the future, concentrate the mind on the present moment.”

#2 “It is better to conquer yourself than to win a thousand battles. Then the victory is yours. It cannot be taken from you, not by angels or by demons, heaven or hell.”

#3 “Let us rise up and be thankful, for if we didn’t learn a lot today, at least we learned a little, and if we didn’t learn a little, at least we didn’t get sick, and if we got sick, at least we didn’t die; so, let us all be thankful.”

#4 “No one saves us but ourselves. No one can and no one may. We ourselves must walk the path.”

#5 “Peace comes from within. Do not seek it without.”

#6 “The whole secret of existence is to have no fear. Never fear what will become of you, depend on no one. Only the moment you reject all help are you freed.”

#7 “To be idle is a short road to death and to be diligent is a way of life; foolish people are idle, wise people are diligent.”

#8 “Your work is to discover your world and then with all your heart give yourself to it.”

#9 “Endurance is one of the most difficult disciplines, but it is to the one who endures that the final victory comes.”

#10 “However many holy words you read, however many you speak, what good will they do you if you do not act on upon them?”

  • Spiritual Thoughts to Improve Your Life

If you’re not taking the time to know yourself spiritually, you are negatively affecting your physical and emotional self as well. You are made up of a mind, body and spirit and you need to spend time nurturing all areas of your being. These spiritual thoughts will put you in a positive thinking frame of mind to better deal with life’s ups and downs and provide you with a solid base of spiritual knowledge to improve your life.

Negative thoughts seem to be out there plaguing so many lives: creating unhappiness, resentment, and long-term damage. Improving your life – no matter what it is you want to change – can be achieved by focusing on some legitimate spiritual thoughts that are directed at bringing more positive thinking and spiritual depth into your life.

To live that awesome life you were meant to live you need to be nurturing and connecting with your spiritual self and continuously working to improve your thoughts. Whether you relate your spirituality to a certain religion or more of universal consciousness, maintain your connection to that higher power for some insightful feelings of what you need to personally work on to bring about an improved state of mind.

Below are 7 spiritual concepts that you can use to bring about an improved perspective on your life:

    • Accept the way life is right now and also the way other people are right now. Everything and everyone is exactly as it/they should be for the present time.
    • A compassionate mind is a healthy mind. Being in touch with your compassion is being in touch with your spiritual self – your true self that you need to nurture. Keep the golden rule sacred and always in mind, which is ‘Treat others as you would like to be treated’ or, to relate to it as more of a don’t rule, ‘Don’t do to others what you would not want to have done to yourself’. There will always be some difficult people to deal with in your life and people living in a way that you don’t relate to. Search the ‘Charter for Compassion’ to see an intriguing movement that has worldwide involvement.
    • Forgiveness of others and yourself is essential to finding spirituality. Feelings of bitterness, resentment or guilt will make it practically impossible to move away from negativity and spiritual emptiness. Feeling bitterness towards someone else will always cause you more damage than it causes the person you’re feeling resentment against: you feel distressed and it creates a block in your life. Live with forgiveness to create a life that is always moving forward.
    • Silence is an important and often ignored necessity of our human nature. Spend time in silence: be quiet and still in your thoughts, movements and spirit and allow the connection to that deeper part of yourself. Be still and find your inner peace, whether you are meditating or just taking the time to be in the quiet of the moment. A time of quiet and some spiritual reflection is a beneficial daily practice.
    • Don’t miss the lessons to be learned in all the experiences of your life. You may not be able to see the good in an unhappy, painful or other seemingly negative situation at the time you’re going through it but have the belief that, in hindsight, there is always some lesson learned or good, positive outcome of every situation.
    • Allow your inner life to be formed by God (or that higher power that you relate to). Know that you will always be provided for and that you have a purpose in life to fulfill, as long as you don’t get lost in the worry and uncertainty of life. Use that time of silence that you make in your daily life to connect to your unique purpose and reason for being here.
    • When times are tough, rely heavily on your spiritual feelings and beliefs. If the physical reality is not so positive then be sure to focus on your spiritual reality and cope with the difficult times with a spiritual mindset. Don’t waver from your spiritual truths.

  • The Little Things

    • As you might know, the head of a company survived 9/11 because his son started kindergarten.
    • Another fellow was alive because it was his turn to bring donuts.
    • One woman was late because her alarm clock didn’t go off in time.
    • One of them missed his bus.
    • One spilled food on her clothes and had to take time to change.
    • One’s car wouldn’t start.
    • One went back to answer the telephone .
    • One had a child that dawdled and didn’t get ready as soon as he should have.
    • One couldn’t get a taxi.
    • Another one, the man who put on a new pair of shoes that morning, took the various means to get to work but before he got there, he developed a blister on his foot. He stopped at a drugstore to buy a Band-Aid. That is why he is alive today.

Now when I am stuck in traffic, miss an elevator, turn back to answer a ringing telephone … all the little things that annoy me. I think to myself, this is exactly where God wants me to be at this very moment.

May God continue to bless you with all those annoying little things and may you remember their possible purpose.
